Does the type of ram in my computer have to match the memory in a video card?

i have 512mb of DDR (PC3200) and i was wondering if i got a pci (original pci) video card if the ram types had to match|||no, the ram only has to match the MotherBoard- as in, be compatible with.|||no. they are completely independent from one another
