ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCI-E 16X 512MB good video card?

Thinking of getting the Mega Special IV on CyberPowerPc.com I can get system with this card for under $1k Ive always bought Dell. 4 desktops and just ordered a laptop. Was going to get the XPS 630 or 730 for my son who loves to play games like wow and has warhammer but current computer wont do right on that. Was suggested to go to this site to buy custom build and it all looks good. Warranty/free shipping. But just want to make sure on this video card. Thanks|||That card is very solid. It's not the top of the line...but it's close. It has a very good price to performance ratio. Check out these links that rate and compare nVidia and Radeon ATi cards. It's clear that they are very positive on the performance of that card for it's price.

EDIT: That card will easily play WoW and Warhammer and then some. I would NOT think twice about purchasing that card because of the price to performance ratio.|||It's an average card but nothing special in today's world. I would contact the Company you are considering and tell them what you want to do with the computer and add a little for the future. If they truly custom build they will know what you need.|||That video card is great. I have one myself. It would cost you $1500+ to get a Dell PC with a card as good as this one. It will not only max out those games with 50+ frames per second, but will also run any other game on the market at max.

Don't listen to the first answer. You should definitely get that PC. And only buy laptops from Dell. Their Desktops are ripoffs.|||From range of piece of nothing, extreme bad, bad, below average, average, above average. nice, extremely nice, excellent, I would rate it nice/extremely nice.

Can I install a new video card in my laptop?

Buying Two ATI video cards?

Ok......so im building a new computer and im going to start off with 4gb of RAM and running two ati 4850's in crossfire. Dual video cards? or a single new card?

I currently have an EVGA 8800 GTS 512mb card

just to show what that is..

http://www.eworldsale.com/evga-512-p3-n8…

I have been looking at the Geforce GTX 200 series cards, and i've been thinking about the 275, but like all new cards, it would cost me a great deal more than an older video card. I believe newegg has the 275 for around $250+

on the other hand i could get another geforce 8800 gts 512 and sli it for about $170 max....

What are your suggestions?

I don't know how well sli really works, but if it does work i want it to be like running 2 cards at once not one card with the other one kind of helping... i hope that makes sense.

Because if thats the case maybe i should just get the 275 card.

Suggestions?|||The Geforce 275 gtx would be way better than putting another of your cards into SLI. SLI and crossfire don't double the performance of a single card, but do give it a significant boost. The workload is divided over the two cards, but combining into one output signal, dividing the workload etc would still have to be done by a single master card. The geforce 200 series also uses a completely different chip architecture and just work faster and better than geforce 8 series chips. Imho $170 to SLI that card just isnt worth it. Hell, you can get a single Radeon 4870 that will outperform that SLI for less.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying SLI isn't worth it.....it CAN be a cost effective way to boost existing hardware....but in this case it doesn't pay off.|||dual are way better. more vram.|||For the time being, and seeing as you will most likley need to upgrade your PSU to do either option you are going to choose, I'd choose a good 260GTX and get out cheaper than with the 275GTX. Besides if you SLI a 260GTX you will have more performance for the buck than with the 275GTX without doubling your 275GTX price. If you upgrade your PSU you need to go ahead and think about the SLI thing. For either the 260GTX or a 275GTX you are looking at needing 40amps on the +12Volt rail or rails. For SLI you need about 70-80amps with the GTX series. While paying for a PSU, might as well go the extra bit and buy the one that will work for any upgrades down the road... You will be paying double later...

Another reason it isn't such a good deal to go with another 8800 is that your card only has 512mb of vram. Just because you put another card with it, doesn't mean you will have 1gig, you will still only have 512mb... Crysis using all high settings uses about 932mb of vram during benchmark tool. Crysis is a dated game compared to the newer ones out now...

As far as the Passmark chart the other girl gave you a link to, I am skeptical of their comparison. For some odd reason they showed a 285GTX near the top of the list. No mention of being an SLI or not, but 1 285GTX insn't more powerful than a 295GTX, and the 285GTX wasn't mentioned anywhere else on the list. It also showed a 5770 being as powerful as a 295GTX, which they didn't say that was a multiple card set up either, but that card wasn't mentioned on the list anywhere else as well. There is no way a $159 card is going to outperform a 295GTX single handedly... Kinda got to be skeptical of some of these benchmarks anyways. If you want good benchmarks and scores, visit tomshardware.com and compare benches to the closest resolution your monitor can dish out, that will give you a better rule of thumb.

Not all resolutions treat graphics cards the same way. Many bench marks will prove a 4850 will outperform a 4870 in low resolution, needless to say a 4870 will unload a wad on a 4850 in higher resolutions... Same thing with Nvidia cards, some do better with lower resolutions than other.

512mb ATI Radeon Video Card for HP Laptop (dv7z series)?

A question about a video card ablity for a laptop.

When I was building a laptop I was interested in buying, I was interested in the video card. Using the model of a HP Pavilion Entertainment dv7z custom notbook, I wanted to put a 512mb ATI Radeon 3450 video card in it. However I was wondering if it could support dual monitors with the laptop being the primary one and another be the external. After doing some research I could not find a answer. My final question is can that video card support dual monitors?|||As a general rule laptops support a second monitor, as they are used for presentation software in a portable format, but only in clone mode. If you are trying to figure out if you can stretch your desktop you will have to connect and look at the video driver to see if it supports that function. A standard install of XP on an older laptop shows that you should be able to stretch across the two monitors.

Does my video card have extra memory?

It's a GeForce 210. The box said it had 512MB of memory, the Nvidia website says it has 512MB of memory, the store I got it from even said it had 512MB. Did I just get a double memory bonus or is something wrong with the computer's estimate of video memory?|||no its a inuilt function of both directx 10 and directx 11

your card is directx 10 compatible by the way.

if a gam runs out of graphics card memory it starts caching to your computers memory to attempt to keep up frame rates. however this said its a much slower method than using memory on the graphics card itself and even with fast memory it cuts fps by atleast 10 - 20. unless you have a very good gaming computer it will never ever replace having lots of graphics ram and should not be relied on.|||your video card has 512mb of vram (video ram). the other 512mb is shared from your ram.

so this 1024mb of vram is not very effective and only the 512mb is mainly used.

Will a 512MB AGP video card work in a 256MB AGP slot?

I bought a 512 MB ATI card but I think my slot only goes to 256 because of the bios settings, but I can't see that anywehere on the motherboard specs. I have an Elitegroup 848P-A Motherboard and the ATI Radeon 2400PRO video card. The computer won't boot up and only beeps. The bios is up to date, the power supply is more than needed, and the slot works with another AGO card. Thanks in advance for any help!|||BIOS settings are for "AGP aperture", which only concerns MAIN RAM, NOT what's on the video card (I'll explain what it is later).

You'll have to tell us what the beep patterns are, then we can tell you what the problem is. Yes, those beeps have a pattern to them, and tells you what the error is. It's part of POST beep codes.

NOTE: ECS mainboards are very picky about memory, and beep codes often result from bad memory installation. Check your BIOS version and beep codes here:

http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes…

(AGP aperture is a portion of your main memory reserved for graphics. As you already noticed, your video card has 512 MB, that's more than some PC's have IN TOTAL, and thus, you should NEVER have to worry about AGP Aperture settings)|||install the driver before ading the video card|||the BIOS option you see is the AGP aperture size, which means the amount of system RAM you age giving to the AGP card, not how much RAM the card has on board, to trouble shoot, take out all other option cards or possibly yo are an AGP v1 and your card is AGPv2 (version)

or like AGP 2x, 4x, 8x,

the slots are pretty snug so make sure it's in all the way also|||ATI's newer AGP cards are really made for newer AGP machines. Most people assume they are made to revive older agp machines. These new ATI AGP card require specific bios updates to support them, and since older machines don't get Bios updates for newer cards, most end up not working. The best thing to do is to check the motherboard manufacturer's website and download the latest Bios firmware (check the revisions as this may give you the needed information)|||I can't see why your AGP slot wouldn't accept a 512 Video card. It is more likely that it is not securely in its slot. Make sure the RAM is also pushed in properly, especially if you have touched this at all.

Take out the card and reinsert it firmly in. If the card has both Analog and DVI plugs, you could try both.

Connecting five monitors to two video cards?

I was thinking of building myself a new computer. After reading about crossfire this and sli that I guess I just don't know enough about these new video cards. That being the case I think I have a pretty straight forward question but I think you may need a little background info first. My current setup is listed below:

Motherboard: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe-UAYO

BIOS Revision: 1017.004

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 (AGP 8X), Sapphire Radeon X1550 (PCI), Sapphire Radeon X1550 (PCI)

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Power Supply: Antec 505watts

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2E Prescott

RAM: 4x 512MB PC3200 DDR-SDRAM

Hard Drives: C: 150GB (Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD), D: 1.5TB (Western Digital WD15EADS), E: 1.5TB (Western Digital WD15EADS), F: 1TB (Western Digital WD10EADS)

CD/DVD: G: LG CD-RW/DVD-ROM (LG GCC-4480B)

Monitors: Gateway FPD2185W (3850), Samsung LCD LN37A530 (3850), Samsung SyncMaster 941BW (X1550), Samsung SyncMaster 941BW (X1550), Samsung SyncMaster 192N (X1550)

Case: Thermaltake Tsunami Dream

Speakers: Logitech Z-5500

As you can see I'm running 5 monitors off 3 video cards right now. I would like this computer that I'm building to run all of these monitors also. Here's what I was thinking for the setup:

Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium

Video Card: 2x Sapphire Radeon HD 5770

Power Supply: Antec TruePower 750watts

Processor: Intel Core i7-930

So my question is are these two video cards able to run the 5 monitors I have? The connections for each display are as follows:

Gateway FPD2185W - DVI

Samsung LCD LN37A530 - HDMI (Currently using a HDMI-DVI converter)

Samsung SyncMaster 941BW - DVI

Samsung SyncMaster 941BW - DVI

Samsung SyncMaster 192N - VGA (Currently using a VGA-DVI converter)

I was reading some things about how although these video cards I have chosen have 2 DVIs, a HDMI and a DisplayPort they can't all be used at once or something. For example I read somewhere that I wasn't able to use both DVIs and the HDMI at the same time on the same card. Also I am not too sure about crossfire. Do I need to have crossfire enabled (i.e. the cards plugged together with the crossfire connector) in order to use all of the monitors, or does this restrict the connections further?

Anyways sorry for being a little long winded, any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

2X ati 5770 in Crossfire will work.

They each of two DVI's (four monitors).

For the fifth and sixth:

You MUST have either a DisplayPort native monitor or an active converter.

You cannot use passive DisPort to DVI/HDMI adapter (<$20)

You can use an active DisPort to DVI/HDMI (>$100), which converts the signal for you.

Or you could always get an ATI 5870 Six ( http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/154… )

Make sure to have latest drives if your going Crossfire ;)

Must use the crossfire bridge.

ATI have just released a 5770 with 5 connectors on it: http://legitreviews.com/news/7619/

JATON Video-PX628GS-LP1 GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express x1 Low Profile Ready Video Card?

I want to play Team Fortress Two on my computer. I need a graphics card with directX9. Two Questions, One- Will the "JATON Video-PX628GS-LP1 GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express x1 Low Profile Ready Video Card" run Team Fortress Two? It has Directx10 but only 512mb! Secondly- Will this "JATON Video-PX628GS-LP1 GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express x1 Low Profile Ready Video Card" run with a computer that only deals out 240 watts? Thank you|||The amount of memory on a graphics card is NOT a measure of it's performance! The card MODEL is what matters, not the RAM. A 512mb GeForce GTS 250 is more than quadruple the speed a 1gb GeForce GT220.

Having 1gb of video RAM only helps performance when running at resolutions of 1920x1080 or higher. If your monitor resolution is 1680x1050, 1440x900, 1280x1024 etc. there's no difference between 512mb and 1gb versions of the same card.

As to your specific question, the 8400GS a terrible card you'll want to avoid. It's less than 1/3 the speed of a GeForce GT220.

http://www.techspot.com/review/244-ati-r…

Over 95% of today's computer's have a PCI-E x16 slot. So you probably need a PCI-E x16 card, not a PCI-E x1 card. If your computer is a slimline/small form factor model, then you'll want a low-profile PCI-E x16 card. While some motherboards do exist which don't have a PCI-E x16 slot, those are very rare. Older motherboards from 2004 and earlier often have the older AGP slot instead of PCI-E x16.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/vidslots/s…

The 8400GS draws very little power so the 240W psu isn't an problem. But there are much better low-power options like the Radeon HD 6450 and GeForce GT 220 (now replaced by the GT 520). Either of those cards would handle Team Fortress 2.

Anyone have a 512mb PCI-E x16 video card recommendation?

I'm planning out a new system and need a recommendation for a good 512mb PCI-E x16 video card. I think I'd prefer nVidia because I like their control center, but I'd be open to an ATI card if they're genuinely better cards.

I'd prefer something at www.newegg.com or www.geeks.com too, unless you know of something elsewhere that's inexpensive and reliable.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.|||The 8800GT is my choice - best 512 card for the money IMO. Brand doesn't matter much, I have an XFX and it plays COD4 at the highest settings and resolution with excellent frame rates.|||well if ur in us or ca, go to tigerdirect.com/.ca in case u didn't know newegg and others don't tell u that they still sell used parts. they just sell it. tigerdirect only sells brand new and very little refurbished parts. they'll tell u. and for the video card it really just depends on the price. try either ati radeon 2900XT or any of the radeon 3000 series. and if u really want nvidia go with the 8800|||I agree with the first post...for a 512mb Nvidia card go with the 8800GT...it's got 122 stream processors, high clock speeds and has the best bang for the buck!

Go with the eVGA brand. Very reliable and good overclockers...

IF you have the extra $100 to spend then yea, go with the newest G92 GPU and get the eVGA 8800GTS 512mb card...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Would be a waste of money to get the 8800GT at this point. Above posters are still about a month behind.

Not because it's not a great card, I use one myself.

The 8800GTS has been revised with the G92 board. It performs very closely to the 8800GTX now.

Matter o fact, the 8800GTS g92 is cheaper than the 8800GT right now, and outperforms it by a huge margin.

Spend a couple of extra dollars and do yourself the favor.

Grab the BFG Tech 8800GTS OC from Newegg.com . Super cheap right now, and comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

The better cooling also helps. Many of the 8800GT's have cooling issues. The 8800GTS g92 has AMAZING cooling.

512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M or ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670 – 1GB|||Among notebook video adapters, the Mobility Radeon 4670 is actually better than the GeForce GT 240M.

This comes as a bit of a surpise, since the desktop GT 240 (a rebranded 9800GT) is far better than the desktop HD 4670. Alas, it seems not everything scales :P|||From a technical aspect, the Radeon is better, but for whatever reason ATI cards are poorly supported for gaming. You'd probably be better off with the Nvidia card if you don't -know- the ATI card will be compatible with everything.|||Hi Gaurav

these are mid range cards which are both capable of running most of todays games however at lower resolutions and detail

the 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M is a mobile version of the new geforce gt240 and performance wise its pretty good with a 1210mhz processor clock and a 128bit memory interface and with support for 48 cuda cores and 174 gigaflops speed this is a capable mobile gpu

on the other hand the ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670 has a 600mhz core clock and a 128bit memory interface and with 320 shader processors this is also worth considering

however since the GT240M uses newer technology i would recommend this over the ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670

any problems let me know

What is the best AGP 8x video card that i can buy?

i want to buy a new video card for my PC and i want to know what is the best AGP 8x video card that i can buy...

i need a video card with 256 or 512mb of ram and other good qualities.|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you read the reviews you'll see the people who bought it are getting great gaming performance for an AGP card. Even doing good with Crysis.

Althou the Nvidia 7950GT is a nice card it only runs DX9, not a factor if you plan on running XP forever but, if you're a gamer and plan on putting Vista in sometime or already have it you'll want DX10. Nvidia has kind of forgotten the AGP crowd while ATI has some decent DX10 AGP cards out.|||probably the 7600GT:

I have the PCI-E version of this card and love it.

That card will run games like Call of Duty 4 on medium-high settings, Gears of War near max, Half Life 2 max, and even crysis on low settings|||I have an Nvidia 8800GTX and it's superb. Top quality.

What Video Card Do I Need To Play Medieval Total War 2?

I recently bought a game called Medieval Total War 2. But unfortunately my current videocard can`t support it. The game runs so slow that it`s not even funny. I just want to know a video card under 100 bucks that can run the game in it`s fullest graphics. One video card that i have in mind is

Whats the difference?|||7600GT is better, it has a faster core clock and faster memory clock. Also has more pixel pipelines. Also, the 7300 uses GDDR2 which is not nearly as good as GDDR3, GDDR2 had problems without overheating and is just not as fast. Memory bandwidth is also a really good way to compare cards, the 7300 is at 8.51 GB/s, and while not quoted on that page the 7600 is 22.4 GB/s. Whats the diferrence in a 256mb and 512mb video card?

The 256mb video card is only capable of holding 256mb of memory at a time to display the game graphics, while the 512mb card can store more information for imediate use. Will this video card work with this power supply?

Will the VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB work on a pc with a generic 430 watt psu?

does the video card need a 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express® power connector, and if not, what are the downsides of not having it vs the upsides of having it?|||It needs approximately 149+ Watt because the PSU requirements on most graphic cards aren't really what they need to be. I'm running a HD 4650 that needs "400W" but I only have 305W and has been working well for 2 years. Oh yeah not sure if it needs a 6 pin power connector so can't help you on that question. At the bottom is a link to "REAL" PSU requirements.

EDIT: Oh I just looked on amazon and the XFX version needs a 6 pin power connector so it just depends on your model. I prefer XFX brand.

Is this card good enough to play games like Crysis, Gears Of War, Call Of Duty World At War etc? 'can you run it' has recommended this card and has everything needed to play these games so why not?

Whats your guys opinion on this card?|||Hi,

No, it's not a good card for today's games as it is an AGP card not the higher speed PCI-E.

The problem is that if your motherboard only supports AGP then that is what you are stuck with.8-((

It's time to think about upgrading your pc...

Arnal|||As far as AGP goes, then yes it is good, without having to replace your whole computer. If you have the processor and RAM for the game, then this video card should work just fine. Yes, PCI-E is the newest and fastest way, however you can still be viable with AGP if your parts are up to snuff. This is really about as good as a card gets for AGP, so if you are to stick with AGP, then this is top-knotch. Eventually some of the newer games are going to best what you can do with AGP, but for now if you have higher-end AGP then you should be good to go.

How much better/worse is that from an ATI X1800 or Nvidia Geforce 7800 (Desktop Video Cards). I understand video cards pretty well, but I don't exactly know how to judge between desktop and laptop video cards.

The reason I am asking this is because I am wondering how well I can play COD4. I have a Sony Vaio FW:

I wanna know if a PCI card exists for an upgrade from my ATI Radion 9250 which is a 256MB Video RAM Card...

Could I upgrade to a 512MB, or even 1GB Video PCI Card...?

Does ATI Radion Have it...?

If not how, or which manufacturer would fit my needs...?|||If you're using an ATI Radeon 9250, PCI slot style, you could upgrade to a 256MB 128bit graphics card like this one, for $90 bucks, plus tx, and shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… That's it. Top of the line for your system,(not so much this particular card, but the 256MB of ram. Your PCI slot can only pass so much information,[in this case, vid signal] That's why they came out with the AGP slot, then the PCI-Express x1 slot, then the PCI-Express x16 slot, and now PCI-Express 2.0 x16,[soon PCI-Express 3.0 x16]

You can only run one vid card, so you'll have to take the other one out. But, I gotta' say it! It's like throwing your money in the wind! As you can see about the various Expansion slots I've named above, your computer is way behind in technology. Why is this? Because Game programming takes a lot of pixel instruction, shader technology, etc., to make it more realistic. (I can't wait until PC's catch up to virtual reality. They have them out, just not for your average PC!) You need a motherboard/processor/ram upgrade! Expensive? Let me show you something:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

Biostar mobo with a PCI-Express x16 slot, USB 2.0, Sata or IDE connections for your harddrive,(it's probably IDE), support for up to 4GBs of DDR2 533MHz ram. (With WinXP your system will only 'recognize' about 3.1 GB's of it. That's because it's a 32 bit OS). Comes with an Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz E4500 processor. $170 bucks for the mobo/cpu combo! Ram? DDR2 533MHz like this:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/… 1GB for $20 bucks,(after $10 rebate), or two of 'em, 2GB's for $40. Or you could go with this ram:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/… , or this ram: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

Now you've got something to put one of the PCI-Express x16 vid cards in, and it'll be fast!|||Go here---> http://www.newegg.com and search for PCI video cards. If my memory serves me correctly the PCI cards maxed out at 512mb. Also, you will gain very little with your purchase...save your cash and upgrade the motherboard.

NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Video Card..... with 512MB DDR2 Ram, x16 PCI?

Can I make a huge difference in my PCÅ› gameplay, By installing a nVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Video Card with 512MB DDR2 Ram, x16 PCI Express??

please help|||Yes the card would make a difference, but you should really up the processor. A 1Ghz P3 processor is not strong enough to push todays games. Go for at least a core duo if you want good gameplay,|||As the person above said, the CPU (Processor) will bottleneck your GPU (Video Card).

Being a pentium III, you probably can't upgrade much though unless you were to build a new PC, and I doubt you even are able to have a PCI Express card in your PC because of it's age. You probably need an AGP or PCI card.

You will have to buy them used off of eBay. I used to own an X1950 pro. Great video card. Its roughly equivalent to an Nvidia 7900 GT or 7800 GTX.

thanks|||pinky is correct

a low entry level video card very common on machines over 4 years old - not a card to try to push or play at high frame rates --it will studder and over heat and your pc will shut down|||512Mb refers to the video card RAM, while 128bit refers to the memory bandwidth. While higher memory bandwidth allows the video card to draw images faster, not necessarily it will increase FPS. You need enough CPU power, RAM and a good enough video card to make full use of the bit rate.

128bit bus is pretty common for budget cards.

Deciding between one video card or three video cards.?

These days everyone is trying to get the most out of their money. So I am deciding whether to get 3 Nvidia Geforce EVGA 9800GTX 512MB video cards for around $450:

.Chipset Manufacturer: NVIDIA

.Core Clock: 756MHz (X3)

.Stream Processors: 128 Processing Cores (X3)

.Memory Clock: 2246MHz (X3)

.DirectX: DirectX 10 (X3)

.OpenGL: OpenGL 3.0 (X3)

Or just one Nvidia Geforce EVGA GTX 285 FTW Edition 2GB for $450:

.Chipset Manufacturer: NVIDIA

.Core Clock: 702MHz

.Shader Clock: 1584MHz

.Memory Clock: 2448MHz

.DirectX: DirectX 10

.RAMDAC: 400 MHz

If anyone could help me decide which setup will perform better with graphics set high I will be really great full. And also the 9800GTX has open GL 3.0, what is the difference between 2.0 and 3.0?|||Three 9800GTX's will outperform a single GTX 285, theoretically. But since most games do not scale well in performance with multiple cards, you're better off with just a single 285. You'll also have less headaches this way, as applications often have problems working right with multiple GPUs. You'll probably encounter system instability and other strange things, too.

However, there *are* instances where you will see the three 9800GTX's outperforming the GTX 285, especially in multi-GPU optimized applications.

OpenGL is an open source API for developing computer graphics. 3.0 is the third revision of the API, and has a number of technical improvements from 2.0 that you probably don't care about.

So if you're feeling risky and want the power of three graphics cards, go with three 9800GTX's, otherwise stay safe and stick with the 285, which is powerful in itself.|||the 9800 cards are mediocre and depending on your motherboard as to how they will respond, does your motherboard truely use 3 video cards all at 16X? or 2 at 16X 1 AT 8X which is like using a Physx card

in which case the single 285 may actually out perform the pair of 9800's

besides the new technologgy in the 200 series is far better then the 9000 series but then you really want to rock get apair of 8800's GX2

or 295 or 295 GX2

the quad sli's will WOW you to no end you will have the best of the best

A 1gb gddr2 or a 512mb gddr3 video card?

I'm looking to upgrade my video card on my computer and working on a bit of a budget. I would like to spend around 150 but would be willing to go up to 200 if it was worth the extra money. I guess my question is should i go with a 1gb gddr2 or 512mb gddr3. I realize that gddr3 is better but with double the memory would the 1gb card work for me. I'm not a real hardcore pc gamer (I let my console do my fps gaming) so i will not be trying to max crisis out or anything. I would however like to find a video that could handle Supreme Commander on at least a mid setting and looking into the future a card that should be able to play starcraft 2. Also I mostly would be playing these games online so i do not know how the card would affect my lag. i realize i might be asking to much but any help would be welcomed and thank you in advance.|||GDDR3 over GDDR2 always... The amount of VRAM is more important to marketing execs than actual game performance. Doubling the amount of slow memory is like an extra order of bad food...

As far as cards in that price range go, the Radeon 4850 is top dog at $175. But for your intended usage, that might be overkill. Save a few bucks and get a GeForce 8800GT or 9800GT.|||I would prefer the gddr 3 version cause even though 1 gb of ddr 2 ram is more than 512 mb, it is slower.|||Radeon HD 4850 comes pretty close to maxing out Crysis at about $170 but, a 9600GT will probably max out supreme commander on a 20" moniter.

512MB of GDDR3 is ALWAYS better than 1GB GDDR2 when playing games because games dont use more than 512mb of frame buffer unless you have texture resolution on max and 4x Anti aliasing. So unless your planing on doing that the slow GDDR2 will greatly decrease frame rates.

A GeForce 8500GT Video card with 512MB of Video Ram, and 2GB of RAM will allow me to play what games?

what games (any modern?) can i play with that video card and 2GB of RAM ?|||The card you have is not a gaming card. Performance depends heavily on the resolution you use for gaming. Assuming that you do not want to use anything lower than 1024x768 I would say that you can expect to have good frame rates only on games that are 3 years old or older.|||A better question may well have been what games can I not play. Assumiong you have a reasonable CPU that spec should run every game on the market right now easily. |||you can play most of the high end games out their just not on the highest visual settings.

here a great web site to see if your whole computer can play the games.

Is a Nvidia Geforce 6800GT Agp 256mb video card better than a Nvidia Geforce 7300GT 512mb agp video card?

The 6800GT is a gamer card with 16 pixel pipelines in its GPU. The 7300GT is a low-budget card with just 8 pixel pipelines in its GPU.

In terms of 3D graphics performance, the 6800GT will beat the snot out of the 7300GT, take its lunch money, and give it a wedgie.

I want to upgrade my Video card in my laptop?

Say I wanted to upgrade my Geforce 8700M GT video card in my laptop to a 512mb video card. How would i go about doing that and how much do you think it would cost me?|||sorry, i have no idea!|||You cannot upgrade a video/graphics card in a laptop as it is soldered into the motherboard, this is called an integrated graphics card and cannot be removed or replaced.

However, it can be easily done in a desktop pc simply by removing the outer casing, unplugging the old graphics card and inserting the new one.|||Hey man.

Well first off, 8700mGT isn't that bad heh.

But if you really want an upgrade, i would let a pro do it, especially if you since it is a laptop, that can be really tricky. If you are pretty tech savy, i would look on some forums and stuff and try to get some tips. Some laptops dont even have expandability.

NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M Turbocache OpenGL|||The 2nd is for a workstation computer. I am not sure what you plan on using the cards for, but that card is not for gaming or general use. Do not get a card with 512 MB of ram on it unless it is an ATI 1900 series card or above or an Nvidia 7900 series card and above. Otherwise the cards are not powerful enough to support that high of textures. It is just wasting money.|||You always want to watch when an advertised RAM is either "on board" or whether it will rape system RAM. Always verify.

Quadro cards are more respected in 3D graphics, but at what cost?

You have other card options and I recommend you seek PGI-X cards with their own 1/2gig on board.

Beyond that, expect to pay 400+USD.|||answer is simple, buy an ATI card.|||Yes, the Quadro is for a workstation and not really geared for gaming, in fact, gaming performance may be slower on a Quadro card. And if you are going to get a single 7600 series card, get a 7600GT with 256MB of memory. The only 7600 series worth getting if you get a single card is a 7600GT with 256MB of memory. Your dell gx 270 has an AGP adapter (for an external graphics card) but most likely, you are currently using the integrated graphics on the motherboard. You cannot simply install any AGP card in the machine. It is best to look on the dell support site what kind of agp card (if any) you can install. This depends on the particular type (small for factor, etc). Some graphics cards need additional power, and the gx 270 (which is made for business use) does not have a powerful power supply. Do you need a low profile agp graphics card?

So do the research on the dell site (enter your dell express code) to see what kinds of cards you are able to install. Then, look on the PC Magazine or PC World website (or cnet) to see if any of the cards you saw on ebay got a good review.

Or consider buying a new card that fits your machine. AGP cards are quite inexpensive these days since most of the PCs went to PCI-Express some years ago.

Is a 512mb video card good enough to play blu-ray quality movies? or do I need to look at getting a 1gb?

I am considering a few cards, but I found a Galaxy GeForce 210 Video Card from tigerdirect.com and it seems to be a great deal...|||Here is the longer version :)

yes but not because of Video-RAM but because output display and resolution.

Blu-ray outputs video at the term we all hear HD 1080p/i which means.

1080p can be referred to as full HD or full high definition although 1080i (interlaced) is also "Full HD" (1920x1080 pixels). The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080. The frame rate in hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p (or i), such as 1080p30, meaning 30 Hz.

So not only does your Video card need to support it but so does your display. That is why when you get cable TV they not only need to upgrade your cable box but also your TV to get optimal viewing quality.

SO as long as you have Blu-Ray Drive, Video card with high enough Hz and resolution in combo with a Display to take advantage of both the drive and video card then you are ready for some awsome Blu-Ray movie watching

Oh and sound card of course ;)

GL|||The amount of memory doesn't really indicate how fast a card is but the majority of it's memory is only needed to render 3D graphics. Mid-point computer video cards?

ok my computer is about one and a half years old now, and it uses an integrated video chipset, Intel GMA-900. The problem is that the card is apparantly so low-ended that it wont even play COD1 (let alone BF2142).

so my question is, which one of these cards would be the best for gaming and driver support?

ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB GDDR2

ATI Radeon HD 4550 512MB GDDR3

ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB GDDR2

EVGA GeForce 210 512MB DDR2

XFX Radeon HD 4650 1GB GDDR2

Zotac GeForce GT220 1GB DDR2

XFX GeForce 9500GT 1GB GDDR2

FYI these are the only cards available that fit below $125, so dont suggest another card, and DO NOT give me a link to a website (not a big fan of online purchasing)|||EDIT:

Completely changed my response. After reading some reviews and comparing results, it looks as if the GeForce GT 220 will offer the best performance of the cards you have listed. In the benchmarks I looked at, the GeForce 9500 had only slightly slower performance. For all purposes, they are about equal.

Second to that would be the Radeon 4650. However, I would recommend you stay as far away from XFX products as possible. They have a bad habit of dying.

As far as driver support, NVidia is very good about this. They tend to release a new ForceWare version every month or so.

As a side note, it's a pity that you don't like shopping online. There are several cards that could stomp any of those you've listed that cost less than C$125 online.

EDIT 2:

To answer your question about the Radeon 5450, it's major problem is the memory bus. It only has a 64-bit. Gaming cards these days are 256+, with the more mainstream cards being 128-bit.

Having a memory bus that narrow will really slow a card's performance down.

To put it another way, that card cannot use it's on board RAM anywhere near as efficiently as most other cards on the market today.

If you have any other questions/concerns, feel free to send me a message through Y!A. I keep odd hours, but will get you a reply as soon as I can.

Which Nvidia video card will give better performance?

When finding a video card for gaming what specs should you look for?

I'm looking for a new video card for my computer, and I'm not sure what parts of the video cards matter the most or what I should be looking for. For example how much of a difference does it make if one video card has 512MB of memory and the other has 1GB? Will it make a difference if I try to play a game that requires 512MB ?|||1. You can google benchmarks of ANY card, and it will show you how fast or slow the card performs in games. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2011/02…

2. Video memory/amount DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT determine a card's performance. I could show you a fast 512MB card, and a slow 1GB card. Video memory is simply utilized by the screen resolution you're gaming at. The higher the resolution, the more video memory the game will use. If you game at 1680x1050 (or below), then 512MB is capable of providing enough video memory. If 1920x1080, then a card with 1GB video memory is preferred. Again, this isn't a factor which determines the card's performance, period.

3. If you list your budget, I'll recommend a good one. Also, you must keep in mind that every card has a minimum power supply requirement. If you don't meet the card's power supply requirement's, then you need to upgrade the power supply, period.|||Vid card chart

Is the Sparkle GeForce-7300 GT 512MB DDR2 PCIe Video Card compatible with Compaq Presario SR1810NX computer?

What video cards can go in a d900c?

i have a clevo d900c, A digital storm laptop, And i know it sounds stupid but i am looking for replacement graphics cards. I have a geforce 9800m gt 512mb well i have two of them and im guessing they both went out. I need to know one of two things, Where can i buy another one to replace what i have, ( that wont cost 800$), and if not where can i buy something equivalent? say a card that can go in and replace it... or do i have to send it back to the manufacture, I don't want to put 1000$ into a old computer that is breaking when i can put it into an newer one.|||You'd have to contact Clevo about that|||That is a 9800M GT MXM 2.1 card. I am replacing mine with a very expensive GTX 280M but then I will have one for sale. So, EBay for mine in about 1 week or you can buy one from Eurocomm for about $600.00 as they have about 10 listed.

What video card will fit my PC?

I just bought a JATON Video-PX8500GT-512 GeForce 8500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card.

Was just making sure it will fit my PC. I have an HP a720n. looking at the slots in my PC it appears the graphics slot is PCI-Express which is what the video card i bought is but i just wanted to make sure.|||Expansion slots available for an a720n:

PCI Three (two open)

DIMM Two (one available)

AGP 8x One (available)

No PCI-e|||So you bought a GFX card then ask us if it will fit...|||If you already have the parts, why not just try to put it in? If they're bot PCI Express, it'll fit.|||Desktop or Tower? You might need a low-profile card if its a desktop case.|||Looking on google, it says that PC has a VGA slot, not a PCI-e x16 slot.

That won't work.|||According to the motherboard specifications, the motherboard contains three PCI slots and one AGP 8x/4x slot. I'm sorry, but your graphics card is not compatible with your motherboard. You'll have to switch the card out for an AGP one.

Can I game with the 512MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 120M TurboCache video card with Dell D820's?

I'm looking to purchase the D820 and am comparing it to the inspiron 9400. The 9400 is gaming capable, but since the D820 is more of a business laptop, I wanted to know if I can play games like Half-Life 2, Doom 3 and some new games with the 512MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 120M TurboCache. The 9400 comes with a 7900GS which is built for gaming, but will the Nvidia Quadro handle some light gaming tasks?|||you know you can, so stop showing off.|||I had the worst answer, but I won anyways. Mom and dad said I would never amount to anything. Well look at me now.

|||Out of personal experience I can tell you that Nvidia Quadro PRO Is not a good choice for gaming, as a matter of fact some games won´t even run with this Vid card (ie Bloodrayne 2) and that is in a Desktop.

If you can get a Nvidia FX 5200 or above or an ATI 9200 go for those instead of quadro pro.|||hey dumbass freakin quadro series is for opengl

geforce is for gaming

two completely different thing

and omfg you're a hell of a dumbass

D820 you're still in the cave???????

INTEL C2D is the way to go now.|||Quadro cards are built for graphical/animation etc. software and it can handle much more then normal Geforce. But thats not the answer. Answer is: Yes you can play games with Quadro.

What is better? Upgrading to a 1G memory ram or upgrading to a 512mb video card?

I am a little low on cash so I am thinking what would be better to buy first. I am a gamer, and the games I play are high-end, but I am low on cash. Argh|||Sadly none of the posters truly understand how to judge a good video gaming card from trash! If i were to present to you a 256MB HD3850 and a 512MB 8400 - which would u pick?

If your answer is #1 then good for you because its memory interface is 256bit and anything lower is a waste of time for serious games trust me!To fully answer your questions we need your current specs/graphics card but if you have a 32bit OS and if adding 1GB RAM still keeps ya under 4GB then adding RAM would be the cheapest way to up performance|||video card, a lot more noticeable in performance.|||If u now got 1gb ram only.....i highly recommend u to upgrade ram

If u now got a grphs card like 8800gt or 8500gt 256mb.....i think its not necessary to upgrade.....but if u got 8400gs or lower....it is nice to upgrade grphs card|||The memory is the cheapest option if you can use 1gig ( or even better 2 gig) of mached DDR2, that is what I would do first and save my pennies to buy a decent vidio card (a 8800gt for example)|||upgrade ram|||for gamers 512mb video card will give you better gharphics...

though 1g memory will give you speed|||Having more RAM would mean you can play games better on your current system at lower settings.

Getting a better graphics card won't really help much, as the rest of the game would be bottlenecked by you having on 512MB of system RAM.

For the poster below:

He could get an 8800 Ultra and games would still run badly, as 512MB system RAM is just not enough in this day and age, even for XP. ;)|||You should get a video card.

From my experience:

I bought a stick of 256MB DDR RAM for my computer.

I installed it but hardly noticed any improvement on performance.

Need for Speed is still as laggy as before.

But when I got a Geforce FX 5500 for my computer, I noticed a large improvement.

Graphics becomes clearer.

Games run faster (PES 6 lags before I bought the Geforce FX, now at full settings in game, it goes as quick as it should be.)

And DVD movies run faster. (Geforce FX onwards have hardware rendering for DVDs, running at full speed.)

If you got PCI (the old one): Get the Geforce 6200GT (PCI).

If you got AGP (not so old one): Get the Geforce 7600GS (AGP 8x).

IF you got PCI express (the new one): Get the Geforce 8600GT (Lower performance than 8800GT to fit your budget,)(PCI Express)

Will my computer accept either of these Video Cards?

I am upgrading my computer and am getting into the VC portion of it, i have found a two cards i really want but want to make sure they will work, I have a Dell Dimension 8400. The cards in question are:

1.) ZOTAC ZT-72SEG7N-HSL GeForce 7200GS 256MB (512MB TurboCache) 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

2.) SPARKLE SFPC84GS256U2LP GeForce 8400 GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI HDCP Ready Video Card

which one do you think is better? and will it work with my Dimension 8400?

Also, something out of left field here, can i potentially build my own rig and just utilize the dell case? I know there are better cases out there, but in case the finances dont add up, can i potentially use this case?|||The 8400 GS is better but those cards are both old and low end now! If your motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot, then yes either will work

Yes you can use the Dell case for a build, but I'd advise against it since manufacturer cases are often cramped

Is a 512MB video card a good card to be put in a new computer?

I'm shopping for something that will support moderate gaming and I'm wondering if I'll be a little limited by the card, moderately limited or just shut out of gaming all together. I'll probably replace it eventually but I'm just not sure where the difference between good and great is.

Thanks in advance.|||The least card I'd use for gaming is the nVidia 9800 with 512MB of RAM. It's not so much the RAM, it's everything else that determines what games it will play on what level.|||The graphics processor probably has as much to do with the ability to support gaming as the amount of memory as well as the resolution that you'll be running at. The charts below might help. 512MB would be minimal, but unless you are planning to change it soon I would be looking for a 1GB graphics card.|||get the Geforce 9600 gso :) it's around $60 and gives ur great performance for that price range :) spend a few extra maybe $110 u can get the Geforce 9800 GTX+ for even better results :D

I'm buying a new Video card and I'm confused about the 512mb vs 1gb?

Hey guys .. I'm wondering if my computer will handle a 1gb video card . I've got a GX 280 Dell 3.0 ghz 4gb memory. 400w power supply. I see there is a 512mb and a 1gb. I mainly play the original battlefield 1942, but the reason I'm really moving up is that I now have a 26" monitor and I've seem to have lost the quality of pictures, videos etc. any suggestions will be great...Thanks|||For gaming there is almost no improvement from 512MB to 1024MB video memory.

Can a Sony Vaio PCV-RS630G use an HIS Hightech ATI Radeon X1650PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card?

I also have a 400 watt power supply. The computer is only about 3 years old. It has an AGP slot.

Sorry, I am really new to installing video cards. I know the difference between AGP, PCI and PCI-E but I have no clue if there are other things I need to consider before buying and installing the card. I am not too familiar with other terms such as 4x/8x. And have no clue if I need to know more about my motherboard or other parts of my computer before knowing if a video card will work.

Besides answering my basic question about if it will work, I would also really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to find this out for myself for future reference or tell me what needs to be done to make it work (if anything). Thank you very much in advance!|||just check and make sure your motherboard uses the agp standard instead of the new pci express.

the 4x/8x rate means it will work at those 2 speeds.

you can check the sony website for specs...i do all the time since i also have a sony vaio which i'm on right now.

thats a pretty good card too.

if you have lquid cooling like me, then there is not alot of room for add ons. the video card will be a tight fit and will almost overlap the next pci slot so plan accordingly. good luck!|||Yes, it has AGP8x slot.

Marketing Specifications

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-d…|||Nothing else you really need to consider. 8x is the speed of the card and slot. PCI is 1x, AGP can be 2x,4x, or 8x, and PCI-E is 8x or 16x. Any AGP card goes in any AGP slot, but if the slot is only 4x, and the card is 8x capable it will only run at 4x speed.

I have a P4PE-X Motherboard, and i want to know if it can support a BFG 7300GT 512MB AGP video card DDR2?

The video card's video memory is 512mb DDR2 and the type for my RAM is DDR and I am wondering if that affects the compatibility for putting this video card in. My card right now is very crappy as it is a Matrox G450 with a memory size of 32mb with 360MHz Dual Head|||It should work. Your motherboard's memory is independent from your videocard. They aren't related in any way.

Is there a benefit to running two 512mb video cards as opposed to a single 1gb vdeo card?

Or is 1gb pretty much just 1gb?|||Yeah except you forgot the other video cards steam processors which makes a huge difference. The way I see it is that your thinking about it like RAM which one 1GB stick vs. 2x512MB sticks but you forgot a video card is a lot more than just memory.|||SLI capability?

are 2 video cards better than 1 !!?

i just bought a computer it has 1 installed already the ati radeon 3650 .w/512mb dedicated memory ,but in my old computer i also have a ati radeon hd 2400 pro w/ 256 memory would it make a difference?? if i had both in there together?|||Sure it will! You will end up with a ton of device conflicts and even if you do get it running, you can only run one card or the other and not both at the same time.....leave it alone|||depends which you like better and how much memory you will use in the future|||yup

What is the price of nvidia geforce 9600gs,9200gs,8900gs,8600gs.Al… cards are 512mb.?

video cards|||geeeeeeeeee dont u know how to

hint go to there web page and look and am not being rude -- just look it up |||hi dinza, i highly recommend that you upgrade your video card to Nvidia 8800 gtx it is a better for gamers but it is a high performance card that will give you the performance you want and need. another word for this card is you might recognize a display adapter. good luck hope i was helpful to you

Should I use the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB or the nVidia GeForce GTS 240 1024MB video card?

the 4870 is a better card, but as the GTS comes with a Gig of memory this makes a big difference even though the card itself is actually not as powerful|||HD 4870 is a faster graphics card.

To all who are advanced on video cards can you tell me this?

when it says 128 supporting 512mb if i get this card will i be able to run it as 512 mb with out using memory from my ram?

Most of the games out now use a TON of onboard graphics memory & Systems Memory such as FEAR.

So get a card with more onboard memory & higher bit transfer.

64 bit is nothing now for these games and they will have to have very poor graphics settings and resolutions to play at all with that processing speed.

My last card (ATi 9550) had 256mb memory & 128 bit memory and I was overclocking it (from 250/200 to 465/245) and it still had a hard time keeping up!!!

My new one cuts through them like butter at 1680x1050 resolution.|||The short answer is no.

Here's the long answer from AMD (who owns ATI, maker of the Radeon):

HyperMemory™ is ATI’s innovative technology that enables a reduction in the amount of on-board memory on a graphics card without compromising its overall performance.

Its advanced memory management technology makes more efficient use of all the available memory in computers with PCI Express® technology. Graphics applications can share system memory and use fast on-board memory for real-time processing between the graphics card and the computer’s memory. This ultimately increases the affordability of ATI’s Radeon™ graphics technology.|||Radeon X1550 is a poor card.

128MB on board memory; 512 MB when it shares (uses) 384 MB of your computers RAM.

Per the following page the X1550 is between the 1300Pro and 7300 GT in performance.

My best guess is it is scores about 17 FRAPS (frames per second) on the following chart.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2…

===============================

My opinion for a new video card:

For playing the latest games a FRAPS (frames per second) of 50 or higher

For moderate games a FRAPS of 30 or more.

For no games a FRAPS of 18
