Quality-Speed-Price Ratio check on computer processor + video cards?

im lookin to buy a new comp.. and i duno anything about processors or video cards.

I used to think the GHZ speed.. 2.0, 3.0 was really how fast it went, but apparently it's not...

So here's my choices.. what is the best value for each? (Not choosing the basic, i WANT to upgrade both XD)

Processor:

Intel Celeron Dual Core E1200 1.6 512K Processor

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2 1M Processor (Add $20.00)

Intel Core2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz 3M 1066MHz Processor (Add $95.00)

Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz 6M 1333MHz Processor (Add $155.00)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHZ 8M Processor (Add $175.00)

and for video cards:

Integrated Intel GMA 3100 Graphics

GeForce 8400GS 256MB PCI-Express (1DVI / 1VGA) (Add $34.99)

ATI Radeon HD2400Pro 256MB (1DVI/1VGA/1HDTV Out) (Add $34.99)

GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCI-Express (1DVI / 1VGA) (Add $59.99)|||I like to call this the "best bang for your buck!"

Anyway, for the CPU there are only two choices:

Intel Core2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz 3M 1066MHz Processor (Add $95.00)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHZ 8M Processor (Add $175.00)

The Core 2 Quad is a lot better, but it's also almost twice as much. The Celeron and Pentium are pretty crappy. Also, I know why you wanted a 3GHz processor: because the old Pentium 4s went up to 3.0GHz. However, you're confusing GHz with performance, which is a fallacy of simply looking at GHz as a measure of speed. I can guarantee you that your 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo would be WAY faster than even a 3.6GHz Pentium 4.

For the video cards: only one real choice at all:

GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCI-Express (1DVI / 1VGA) (Add $59.99)

The other video cards are all crap and hardly worth it. Even this video card is pretty low-end. However, if you don't mind buying the video card separately and installing it yourself, you can get:

Integrated Intel GMA 3100 Graphics

and upgrade it later. Of course, you only need a good video card if you plan to play games.|||get the e8400 with 4G of RAM, then go to newegg.com and order a 4830 video card separately. Don't go overboard with too powerful of a video card or you will wind up needing to upgrade the power supply.

Here's a link that shows how video cards rank in performance per dollar, you'll see what I'm talking about.
