What difference will i experience between 512MB and 1GB in video memory?

can someone please explain what differences I may experience between a video card with 512MB and 1GB?? the games I play are somewhat older anyways, I'm not sure I need a GB of video ram|||With a graphics card there are several other factoirs that make any card better than any other one.

The first and most importanty is the METHODS of video translation and rendering the brand of card uses, these are the terms You see on the label like polymorphing, Openglide, etc and about 25 others.

The second factor is the actual chipset on the card that performs the functions, it can be a 32-bit or 64-bit, and there can be 2 actual chips peforming different oarts of the graphics translations, calculations, and effects.

The LAST factor - but just as important as the the4r 2, is the actual speed of the RAM on the card and how fast the (F)ront-(S)ide (B)us speed is of the video card and the slot it fits into on the motherboard. Different typoes f motherboard connections support only maximum speeds from the cards and even a fast RAM vid-card will only be as fast as the connection to the motherboard.

Consider ALL those factors and look up the differences between the 25+ methods of rendering and calculations the cards use before eciding on something as basic as the amount of RAM on a vid-card.

Any game older than 2-3 years should benefit from a 1gig upgrade from 512 though, as long as the motherboard will handle the card's drivers and translation methods fine. Including most of the GTAuto series, Test Drive series, need for Speed series, etc ... but some of those games were designed specfically for certain brands of vid-cards and only use the best features with those card brands.

Good Luck!.|||If none of the games you play recommend more than 512 you won't notice a difference. If you play graphics heavy games it certainly won't hurt but I'd recommend a card with a better GPU than more memory.|||only a game that demands 1 gb may give problems and even then you may not notice it
