Is a 512mb video card good enough to play blu-ray quality movies? or do I need to look at getting a 1gb?

I am considering a few cards, but I found a Galaxy GeForce 210 Video Card from tigerdirect.com and it seems to be a great deal...|||Here is the longer version :)

yes but not because of Video-RAM but because output display and resolution.

Blu-ray outputs video at the term we all hear HD 1080p/i which means.

1080p can be referred to as full HD or full high definition although 1080i (interlaced) is also "Full HD" (1920x1080 pixels). The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080. The frame rate in hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p (or i), such as 1080p30, meaning 30 Hz.

So not only does your Video card need to support it but so does your display. That is why when you get cable TV they not only need to upgrade your cable box but also your TV to get optimal viewing quality.

SO as long as you have Blu-Ray Drive, Video card with high enough Hz and resolution in combo with a Display to take advantage of both the drive and video card then you are ready for some awsome Blu-Ray movie watching

Oh and sound card of course ;)

GL|||The amount of memory doesn't really indicate how fast a card is but the majority of it's memory is only needed to render 3D graphics. A Geforce 210 should be up to the job though.|||Simple and quick answer is it's far more than you need.|||amount of memory isnt what really matter. what matters is the cards chip set. although a geforce 210 is plenty for blu-ray movies.

ps newegg.com has better prices and m biased toward ati products
