Can a Acer Aspire M1610 computer support a 512MB nVidia geforce 8400 GS video card?

I'm having computer trouble.

My friend has a Acer Aspire M1610 computer, he just bought a 512mb nVidia geforce 8400 GS video card, but will not run properly. Once installed, the computer will either not show any video from the on-board video card OR the new video card. Sometimes it will boot up with video from the on-board video, but it won't let me install the drivers on the computer. (Vista 32-bit)

Any thoughts?|||2 come to mind

1 enter bios via delete key at boot up and disable the inboard graphics

.

2 connect monitor to the new card and boot system by pressing F8

a list appears select safe mode

you may find you can now install the drivers for your card

then reboot to normal mode
