Question about video cards and MEMORY 256MB vs 512MB?

PLEASE NOTE: i am NOT talking about hypermemory, turbomemory or any other type of shared memory.

Which is better for heavy video games, 512mb or 256mb

on the top one would assume 512, but then why does it seem to me that so many 256mb cards are more expensive than the 512mb?|||The first guy is right, you want to get stuck on memory when it comes to graphics cards, you want Gpu c;ock speed and pipelines, and core clock of the gpu and memory. I have a Evga 8600gts with 256mb and a core clock of 675 and 32 pipelines and it overclocks to 720mhz easy and stable. I can play Bioshock, and Crysis without any lags at all.|||alot of 512 cards are cheaper because they use gddr2 insted of gddr3, but as for just memory in general, more is better but make sure its gddr3 before you buy a video card. if your talking about new games i would go for 512(but only if gddr3)

wat really matters is the core, i always recommend an 8800gt 512mb, they run around $300. i wouldnt go below a 8600 in the nvidia 8 series, i would get a 7900 though before i got a 8600 because 7900s are better cards(look in toms hardware vga charts)

the only ati card i would buy would be a x1900 or 1950|||Memory does not make a large difference unless you are gaming at ultra high resolutions. The reason so many cards have 512 for so cheap is to lure people into purchasing them.

What is really important is the processor(GPU) and the number of pipelines. See the source for a speed comparison for most of the popular video cards on the market.

Edited ti give a link to a better chart list
