Do certain video cards only work for certain drivers? (Very confused ><)?

Hello, i am looking for a new video card. My comp is pretty old but I'm fixing that :D, upgrading 512MB of Ram to 2GB's of RAM. And now looking at a powerful video card, i want a 512MB Geforce or equivalent, and to do this i most likely need a new power source,( looking 500W one) and was wondering if that would be enough. But mostly i am after a video card that will work will my out dated comp, ( Dell Dimension 4800) 512MB of Ram (ew) a 96MB video card ( TERRIBLE :P) and decent everything else.|||Every hard ware device that is different from others has its own driver.

This is software that interfaces the device to the OS.

Your power supply is more than adequate|||If you know a friend or you want to find out yourself, i would not recommend going to Dell, as most of the computers i fix are from Dell (like) companies. Either build custom or maybe learn. But if your happy with Dell and don't mind spending extra money. Go ahead.

But to answer your question Nvidia gfx cards are used for nvidia gfx drivers. When you download them it tells you what models they can be used for so your fine there =D.

Good luck and PM me if you need anything, i'm happy to help for any computer related problems/issues.

|||I suggested Radarsync , a few weeks back. Someone said it wanted to charge them for driver updates, I never had a problem with it, maybe give it a try. There is also a program at Givewayofthe day.com that is driver related, read the comments on the download page. (it's only available today) I wasn't interested in it so I didn't read the details.|||each video card has its own drivers specifically to that particular model

like nvidia makes different video cards with different memory size all have their ovwn drovers.

Check with nvidia for your computer supported video card

go to www.nvidia.com for any assistance.
