Sli video cards help needed!!?

ive got a xfx 8600gt 512mb vid card and i wana put in a 2nd. unfortunetly i have only found a 256mb ove in my price range. is it possible to put in 2 cards of diffrent memory sizes?|||hi denty

i wouldnt advise it,and using coolbits is in essence voiding any warranty you have on your cards

i understand were yad is coming from and the method is workable however its a risky procedure and may make your system unstable

however i have found a Asus Extreme 8600GT 512MB PCI-E(http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Othe… just £40.00 inc. VAT,and this would work perfectly with your xfx,or for another £8 you can get the XFX Geforce 8600GT 512MB DDR2 PCI-E (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… just £48.82 inc. VAT

personally for the sake of running the 8600gt in sli configuration i would wait if you cant afford to buy this card

as for the memory in the cards this wont matterand the the same applies to the core clock, basically because the same cards will normally have identical specs,if they dont then they are either overclocked or a ultra version

good luck mate !|||No, this isn't possible. They have to be the same. |||While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes. Instructions to enable this feature can be found here.

|||No you can't, and I'm surprised you're computer is working when you mix ddr2 and ddr3.
