512mb or 1gb video card??

Hello every1. So i was wondering to either get an 8800gt 512MB or 1gb. I usally use this computer mainly for schooling and some gaming. I was wondering what is better to go with: 1gb or 512mb?like what will i get with spending 50$ more on a 1gb than a 512 (according to newgg.com). Im not doing too much gaming right now but that might change..|||I do not think the extra 512MB is worth the money. 512 is a lot for most games and an 8800gt will run most games today. Save your money.

Edit: It really depends on what you want to play to. I wouldn't get a 8800gt 1g card ever... but I recommend getting the 9600GT which is about the same price and gives a better experience than the 8800GT|||for the 8800 GT, the bottleneck is not the amount of video card, so the extra 512 mb really won't be that helpful.|||Go for the 512mb. The 8800GT was designed for 512MB, an extra 512mb put on an aftermarket card is in actual fact slower than the 512mb version because the clock speeds on the memory will be alot lower than on the 1gb, you could overclock it but it reduces the lifespan of your card and also produces more heat.

A higher amount of RAM is only needed for higher resolutions. If you run at say 1280x1024 then you will be fine with the 512.|||go with the 1gb.. overall itll probably be better.. but if you dont game alot the get the 512.. itll still function just as well|||1 GB is the way to go if you don't mind spending xtra
