Video Cards....100 Dollar Budget...?

So I currently have a Sapphire HD 3870 512mb Video Card...I've had it for a while...What would be the best card to choose that can sort-of Significantly boost my performance from my old 3870 all within a 100 dollar budget?...feel free to show me cards that are a tad bit above 100 bucks....135 max|||You currently have a Radeon HD 3870 - which isn't a bad card even by today's standards. That's a PCI Express x16 slot card with a 6-pin PCIe power connector, so you don't have a wimpy power supply.

You should be looking at the GeForce GTS 250/450 or Radeon HD 4850/5750 or higher to get a noticeable graphic performance increase. Here's one list with a few options: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis… The Radeon HD 5770 that is $99.99 after MIR is the best at your price point.

Ideally, I would recommend the Radeon 6850 as being the best card for you, but that's more like $190. The GeForce GTX 460 is also excellent, but requires 2x 6pin PCIe power connectors, which may require a power supply upgrade too.

If you have a quadcore processor, you have enough to run any video card. A lowish speed dual core processor won't let a high end graphics card perform up to spec, so balancing your purchases makes sense.|||Hey, based on your graphics card it should use a PCI-E x16 interface which is a modern interface and that would mean that your motherboard would have a PCI-E x16 slot as well. But please double check that you are using a PCI-E x16 slot. I would probably recommend a GTS450 ($130AUD, please note i live in Australia and we're using the Australian Dollar, if your in the US this would be about $99) which is a great card for gamers on a budget and runs really well with many of the latest titles on about a 1680x1050 resolution which is the most common resolution that gamers use. This card also requires one 6-pin PEG power connector from your power supply in order to power the graphics card. So if you have a old power supply that doesn't have any PCI-E PEG connectors (which in this situation, it is likely you don't), you may need to replace your power supply with a modern one. But if your power supply is rated at about 400W and you have at least something about 36A on the 12V, you could run this power supply off using a Molex to 6-pin adapter.

Another alternative graphics card would be from the ATI side, which is the HD5670, HD5750 or the HD5770. Although the GTS450 is faster than the HD5750, the HD5770 is just a bit more faster in terms of general graphics performance. Also, please note all these cards require a 6-pin PEG power connector from your power supply so you may need to get a new power supply that has a 6-pin PEG power connector to handle a new graphics card or if you have at least a 400W PSU, you could use Molex to 6-pin PEG adapters to power it up. I wouldn't recommend powering a HD5770 on a 400W PSU though. Now it is up to you to decide what card you want and also the pricing matters a lot.

Some of them are almost consider med-high end video card. I tried searching some video cards for a budget of 100 bucks too before but most of them are still weak to play current games today.|||Well first off You CANT get a new GPU without upgradeing your power supply

Im guessing since your computer came with a HD 3870 it must of came with a lower watted power supply like 300watts. You can get one at newegg.com this is a great psw that i always use when i make custom gameing computers for my friends http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If your gonna be gameing i reccomend a: 1GB 9500GT,GT 240, 9800 GT the 9800 gt is the best

if your gameing a 1gb gpu is A MUST

if your just trying to get a good performance boot with no gameing: 8400 GS|||The 3870 is a pretty decent video card, you would have to spend more than $100 to significantly better it.

A Geforce gtx460 768Mb or Radeon 5770 would be my choice, dont bother with lesser cards.

- You will need a 500w or better psu with those.

Note to idk. A 9500Gt would be a down grade to a 3870 mate|||ATI HD5770
