Pls help computer masters.. do the 1gb and 512mb video card with the same name and model works the same.?

do the 1gb and 512mb video card with the same name model , desame gpu speed. but not in memory works equal and thesame? what 512 mb video card cant do while 1gb video card can?

pls explain...|||gpu memory does play a part but it is not the only factor. An important factor is also the class of the graphic card.



if your graphics card is low-mid range graphics card then additional video memory will not help so much.



laptop/computer manufacturers often offer extended video memory (or shared memory) as a marketing gimmick.

The card with twice as much video memory will be able to store twice as much without having to request that the system (the CPU and RAM, along with the other devices) swap that information out.



If you're running a game, for example, you know that your CPU and RAM are working hard to handle user input, while the graphics card is working hard to render the video information quickly -- if the system as a whole works too slow, you'll see the frames-per-second (FPS, formally called a frame rate) decrease.



For example -- I recently got an nVIDIA card with 1GB video memory. While playing one game, I checked the frame rate and found that it was 25-30 FPS. That card failed (the fan broke, and so the card needed the fan replaced) and I was mistakenly given the same model with 512MB video memory as a replacement (note to self -- do not buy cards branded BFG anymore). Nevertheless, I popped the card into the computer just to see if it would work. You'd think that the loss of that much video memory wouldn't cause such a problem -- but the frame rate dropped to around 8 FPS.



So it does make a big difference, especially with games that make extensive use of the graphics adapter's 3D rendering capabilities. It might not be important for games that use only 2D graphics or are more than three or fours years old, but for recent games it is very important.
