Does video card plays a big role when working with pictures on computer?

Does video card plays a big role when working with pictures on computer? I will be building a computer for my sister very soon and was wondering does video card have a big effect when working on pictures. She does wedding pictures so she uses lots of programs like Adobe Photoshop and others. Than she uses her computer for internet and media. She won't be playing games thats for sure. So I was think will faster video card be better or does more memory on video card for her is better. I was thinking of buying 8600GT just to be future proof. Or should I get something faster, will it have any effect. Should I get something with 512MB of video memory compared to 256MB. My two choices now are either 8600GT or 2600XT.

Other Specifications:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

4GB of Dual Channel Gskill Memory

500GB Sata 3.0 Hard drive

Either 8600GT or 2600XT|||What you built is more than sufficient enough for what she is going to do. plenty of memory on the motherboard as well as the 8600GT? you can't lose! great setup there for just a photoshop and picture machine! Futureproof? You bet! Bigtime. Well done.

Fuetaso|||ummm nice comp specs... well, i got Nvidia 8800 GTS with 320 Mb of ram.. i recommend this one... its good for video games.. there fore its good for everything... its just 300 dollars... so u should get this one.. or get the one below this one which is the 8600... good luck with it|||yes, yes.yes, why? because computers rely on the video cards to

have the resolution, color and quality of a picture when it is processed by the cpu.. it is also the main reason why many picture editors turn to digital photography and also, editing requires some of the video cards memory, well in your case i'll recommend you use nvidia instead of ati vid cars because ati video cards hung in your pc.. well overall i'm quite impressed by your pc...gud luck visit this site..http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html|||Photoshop doesnt really rely on a fast GPU, I would stick with a 8500 or a 8600 just for the directx 10, but other than that buy a really fast CPU and lots of RAM|||as far as the video card goes, it's very important to have a very good one if you are a serious gamer, if not then you can use a cheaper one and still get the same results
